DAYTON, OH - Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) has partnered with Truth Initiative®, a national public health organization to offer a digital program to help individuals quit smoking and vaping. The EX Program also expands solutions for the local workforce, as these smoking and vaping services are now available through Montgomery County ADAMHS.
“We know these are stressful times, but we also know that smoking and vaping actually trigger cravings and make you feel worse,” stated Bruce Barcelo, Program Coordinator for Montgomery County ADAMHS. Barcelo added, “The EX Program will give participants the skills and confidence they need to quit on their terms. They will even provide one month of patches, gum or lozenges for free. Using quitting medications can double the chances of quitting successfully.”
The financial and health impacts of smoking emphasize the need for innovative and integrated approaches to quitting:
- Nearly 70% of smokers want to quit.
- 55% of smokers make a quit attempt annually, yet only 7% are successful.
- According to a recent study, an employee who smokes can cost an employer nearly$6,000 more than a nonsmoking employee.
Truth Initiative has a long history of building engaging digital interventions and the EX Program grew out of the organization’s vast portfolio of peer-reviewed and field-leading research. To date, more than 895,000 participants have enrolled in EX, developing the skills and confidence critical for quitting smoking successfully. Research has shown that following the EX quit plan quadruples a tobacco user's chance of quitting. In response to the e-cigarette epidemic in 2019, the EX Program expanded to include cessation support for e-cigarettes, as well as resources for parents who want to help their child quit vaping.
