Peer Support

Peer recovery services are community-based services for individuals with a mental illness or substance use disorder. The services consist of activities that promote recovery, self-determination, self-advocacy, well-being, and independence. Peer recovery services are individualized, recovery-focused, and based on a relationship that supports a person’s ability to promote their own recovery.

Individuals engaged in peer support play an active and vital role in laying the foundations for sustained recovery by sharing personal experience and knowledge and are an important part of a recovery-oriented continuum of care. Peer run organizations enhance the quantity and quality of support available to individuals seeking recovery from mental health or substance use disorders.
