COVID-19 Specific Resources for Employers

Recovery 1

People are having a tough time right now.

Though you may not know which of your employees are struggling with substance use disorder or working to maintain their recovery, they are likely being impacted more than you realize by what we're being asked to do to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

These employees are at an increased risk for a number of reasons:

  1. General increased preoccupation with alcohol use (e.g., "wine with DeWine" and the novelty of virtual cocktail/happy hours to connect with friends and co-workers)
  2. Increased availability of alcohol (e.g., alcohol and cocktail deliveries being actively promoted as ways for people to drink without having to go to the store)
  3. Social isolation, resulting in more people spending time alone and feeling less connected to co-workers, friends and family
  4. Decreased support and accountability from counselors and self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous as these resources become less available or move online
  5. Increased stress and mental health challenges as we try to manage all the changes we are experiencing - without knowing when this will end or what the new "normal" will look like
Employers, please be proactive and share the resources below with your employees to help everyone - especially those dealing with substance use disorder - better cope during these uncertain times.
